Human Rights Day lecture: Women's Suffering During Uyghur genocide

On Monday, December 9, 2024, a lecture titled Women's Suffering During Uyghur Genocide took place at the Faculty of Law of Charles University. The event was organized by the Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights and the Forum for Human Rights in honor of Human Rights Day and the Uyghur Genocide Recognition Day (proclaimed following the issuance of a condemning judgment by the Uyghur Tribunal). The lecture featured powerful and authentic testimonies from two survivors, Mihrigul Tursun and Kalbinur Sidik, who shared their personal experiences of repression, torture, and persecution in Chinese concentration camps.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to both survivors for their incredible courage in sharing these stories, which serve as evidence of the ongoing genocide in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang. Special thanks also go to moderator Iveta Vancáková from the Forum for Human Rights for co-organizing the event, sinologist Dr. Klimeš for providing translation from Uyghur to Czech, and, last but not least, to all attendees who supported the discussion with their questions and came to hear these testimonies.

We look forward to more gatherings in the future! 💙
